Years ago I almost photographed Amie and Christian’s wedding in Watamu, but it wasn’t meant to be. Over the years we kept in touch and was so glad when Amie shared that they’d had a little girl.
When I went home to Kenya for a visit a few years ago, we met in person and I had the opportunity to photograph a Sunday afternoon at home with them.
Amie, you know how we Kenyans like to say ‘umejizaa?’ (you’ve birthed yourself). Your daughter is so much like you; clever, funny, friendly, curious, confident and strong-willed-in short, she’s pretty wonderful.
I HUMBLY ACKNOWLEDGE THE WURUNDJERI PEOPLE OF THE KULIN NATION AS THE TRADITIONAL OWNERS AND CUSTODIANS OF THE LAND ON WHICH i LIVE AND WORK. I PAY RESPECT TO THEIR ELDERS, PAST AND PRESENT.
